The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola). The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate just purchase it.įor M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum. The XPR6550 is one of my favorite radios. Software works well, although maybe not as simple as most ham programs. The Moto CPS has many more features like copy and paste etc between Moto radios. Fairly Heavy, but it feels like quality!Īll programming takes place through the typical Motorola computer program we have seen for so many of the DMR radios.Price – Yes, there is a reason why – it is indestructible!.Zones are well organized and copyable between XPR models.Plenty of fancy features some of which I am using.Solid tough case – it feels like quality!.During the early days of DMR, it was the cheapest HT I could find.
From a performance and also feature standpoint, it is still one of my favorites. The “affordable” HT was a well used XPR6550. There were no TYTs, Anytone or other cheap radios.
